Zach Bryan

Appearing in: boston

Zach Bryan grew up in Okinawa, Japan as the son of a US Navy officer and spent his formative years between military bases before settling in Oklahoma, where the landscape and culture that would define his songwriting took hold. He began posting videos of himself performing original songs on YouTube in 2019 while still serving in the Navy, and the response — immediate, organic, and driven entirely by the quality of the songs rather than by any promotional infrastructure — was unlike almost anything that had happened in country music in years. His voice, his guitar playing, and his lyrical directness simply connected with people who shared his videos widely before he had any label support or radio presence.

His major label debut American Heartbreak (2022) — a triple album of forty-four songs — demonstrated both his productivity and his confidence that audiences would follow wherever he led. His 2023 self-titled album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Country charts simultaneously, with features from Kacey Musgraves and The Lumineers that signaled the breadth of his musical community. The album's lead single "I Remember Everything" with Kacey Musgraves won the Grammy for Best Country Song. Bryan's live shows are enormous — stadium and festival-scale events that maintain the intimacy of his songwriting in settings where that is genuinely difficult to achieve, which is itself a kind of artistry.
