Weird Al Yankovic

Appearing in: austin-san-antonio, dallas-fort-worth, chicago, boston, detroit

Alfred Matthew Yankovic began parodying popular songs as a teenager in Lynwood, California, sending homemade recordings to Dr. Demento's nationally syndicated radio show in the late 1970s. His first major label release came in 1983, and for over forty years he has occupied an entirely unique position in popular music: the rare artist who achieves mainstream chart success with song parodies and original comedy compositions. His 2014 album Mandatory Fun became the first comedy album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 since 1963, and its lead single "Tacky" — a parody of Pharrell's "Happy" — was accompanied by a single-take music video that became an immediate viral sensation.

The catalog spans parodies of virtually every major musical genre and generation, from "Eat It" and "Fat" (Michael Jackson) to "Smells Like Nirvana" (Nirvana) to "White & Nerdy" (Chamillionaire) to "Perform This Way" (Lady Gaga). His original compositions — written in the style of particular artists or genres without parodying a specific song — are often just as celebrated: "Dare to Be Stupid," "Albuquerque," and "Hardware Store" have developed devoted followings on their own terms. In 2022 he released Alpocalypse and the tongue-in-cheek authorized biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Live, Weird Al's concerts are known for their theatrical ambition: multiple elaborate costume changes, video segments, a skilled backing band, and an energy level that belies his decades in the business. He performs with the commitment of an artist who takes comedy completely seriously, and the result is one of the most genuinely entertaining live shows on the road in any genre. The Bigger & Weirder 2026 Tour lives up to both words in its name.
