Bone Thugs-n-Harmony — Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone — formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1991 and developed a vocal style that was genuinely unprecedented in rap: melodic, harmonized delivery delivered at rapid-fire speed, blending conventional rapping with sung passages in ways that made their music simultaneously harder-edged and more melodically accessible than most of what surrounded it. Eazy-E signed the group to Ruthless Records after famously offering to sign whoever could rap to him fastest, and their debut EP Creepin on ah Come Up (1994) produced the regional hit "Thuggish Ruggish Bone."

Their 1995 major label debut E. 1999 Eternal debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced the Grammy-winning "Tha Crossroads," a tribute to Eazy-E that blended mourning and uplift in a way that transcended genre and reached number one pop. Their follow-up, The Art of War (1997), also debuted at number one and set a record for the fastest-selling double album in history at the time. Performing alongside Wu-Tang Clan puts Bone Thugs in the company of peers from exactly the same moment in 1990s hip-hop history, and audiences who came of age with both groups' music will recognize this bill as the kind of reunion event that doesn't happen often.
